Policies and Procedures
COURSE FEES:
Course fees are based on student need and available financial assistance. Contact the course administrator for more information.
COURSE ORIENTATIONS:
Most courses include an orientation prior to course dates to prepare enrollees for upcoming course requirements or to allow enrollees to complete any pre-requisite assessment testing. Contact your course administrator once your registration is complete.
STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:
Cornerstones is a place of business, and while here you are expected to conduct yourself with professionalism.
Any behavior which inhibits or disrupts the learning process of others is strictly prohibited. Students must communicate respectfully and courteously with instructors and other students at all times. Verbal or physical behaviors that injure, degrade, or intimidate other students will not be tolerated.
How you present yourself to the world reflects a great deal about you. It also affects how productive you are at work, in your studies, and in a job search. Your clothing, body, and hair should be clean and neat when you are in class. If you come to class in revealing or inappropriate clothing, you will be asked to go home and change before returning to class.
Smoking is not permitted inside Cornerstones. Maximum class length is 2 1/2 hours. You should be able to complete a class without leaving for a smoke break.
The time clock records your arrival, departure, and the hours you study. Punch in every time you enter or leave the building. Cornerstones is required to track the study time of all students.
As a courtesy to instructors and other students, all cell phones should be turned off or set to silent during class times. If you must take a call during class, please leave the room until your conversation is complete.
All internet usage is monitored. You may use the internet only for the activities outlined in your class assignments. Unauthorized or inappropriate use of the internet will result in loss of your computer privileges.
ENROLLMENT PROCEDURES & PRE-REQUISITES :
To insure that you receive the most effective instruction possible, it is
vital that you complete all steps in the enrollment process before registering for classes.
Before attending class you must:
• Complete Cornerstones intake paperwork with a Career Specialist.
• Register for and attend orientation (contact the course administrator for schedule).
• Complete all assessements.
• Complete class registration form.
If you have not completed all prerequisites before the class start date, you will not be allowed to attend class.
All students must attend Adult Education orientation before registering for classes. Orientation is held approximately a week before each class session begins.
ATTENDANCE POLICY :
Students must maintain good classroom attendance in order to meet their educational and career goals. In order to optimize classroom time, students must meet the following attendance policy:
•Students are expected to attend a minimum of 75% of scheduled classes. For example, if a class meets 4 days a week for 6 weeks, or 24 class sessions, and you miss more than 6 classes in a session, you will be dropped from the class.
•Punctuality is important. If students are more than 20 minutes late for class, they will be counted absent for the day. This absence will then be counted as one of the allowable absences.
•Students are responsible for contacting teachers to notify them of extended absences. Students who are absent more than three consecutive classes without contacting the teacher will be dropped from the class. Students who have been dropped from a class due to attendance issues may re-enroll for the next available orientation and class session.
•If a student is unable to attend scheduled classes due to circumstances beyond their control, they may apply to the Executive Director for permission to enter a Temporary Independent Study Plan. The student’s plan must include:
1) the need for the extended absence;
2) a plan for completing classwork independently;
3) a target return date;
4) a plan for maintaining contact with the instructor during independent study.
Temporary Independent Study Plans are granted on an individual basis at the Executive Director’s discretion.
