EVEN START FAMILY LITERACY PROGRAM:  

Making children a part of a family team is of critical importance to the kinds of adults that they will become.”

 The Even Start program has created a specialized Child Development Center for children ages 4 weeks until they begin kindergarten. 

Even Start Educators and parents spend time working together on helping children reach their educational goals.

Children are given the opportunity to be involved in various learning activities Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm. 

These free, quality childcare services are limited only to those actively participating in the Even Start Family Literacy Program.

What is Even Start?

EVEN START is a family centered educational program that involves parents and children together.

Parents become partners in their children’s education, improve their own basic education skills, learn how to be their child’s first teacher and work toward reaching their fullest potential.

The goal of this program is to create a complete individualized program by combining:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Basic Adult Education
  • Parent Education
  • Parent and Child Interactive Literacy Activities

This is achieved by building on existing school and community resources.

What is the cost of the program?

There is NO COST for services provided by Even Start.

Mission

To improve the educational Opportunities for Huron area families through a unified literacy program of early childhood education, adult literacy and parenting education.

Even Start services are provided through classroom instruction and monthly home visitations.

Adult Education services are available at Cornerstones Career Learning Center, Inc and the Huron School District..

Early Childhood Education servicesare available at the Even Start ChildDevelopment Center.

Who is Eligible?

Families residing in the Huron area.  Families who have at least on child who is under 8 years old.

 Adults who are eligible for services under the Adult Education Act:

  • Current high school or alternative school student
  • Needs to obtain GED
  • English is Second Language
  • Has need to further develop basic education, computer, or literacy skills

Second Language Services

Translator/Interpreter services are available; along with, bi-lingual materials for children and adults.
